Oahu was our first love with Hawaii, from the moment we boarded on the airplane with the anxious excitement, to the moment we said goodbye. We both knew, that we left a piece of our hearts there and we’ll always go back.
As you get off the plane you can feel the warm humid air, the smell of tropical paradise and feel the Aloha vibe. You hear the relaxing Hawaiian music and you can sense the magic in the air. All you want to do is breath in to this moment and forget the rest.
So jump into your rental car, kick off your shoes and get ready to enjoy the happy laid back lifestyle and hurry to the beach.
Lanikai Beach
Waikiki Beach
Oahu attracts tons of tourist from all over the world and most of them tend to go straight to Waikiki – the most famous beach. Which there’s nothing wrong with that if you like overcrowded places full of tourist, that’s definitely your spot. For us the less is the best, that’s why we always like to hit the road and go to the still popular North Shore but way less crowded.
Don’t get us wrong though, Waikiki it’s a fun place to be if you like high rise hotels, great restaurants, lot’s of shopping and easy beginners spot to learn to surf. On the other hand if you truly want to experience the feeling and the raw beauty of Oahu, hit the road north.
The best way to explore the island is to drive around, pull over to every little beach and scenic lookout you want. Here some of our favorite lookouts:
1. Diamond Head Lookout
2. Makapu’u Lookout
3. Nu’uanu Pali Lookout
4. Hanauma Bay Lookout
5. Halona Blowhole Lookout
Hanauma Bay
Our favorite part of Oahu is the North Shore ( Of course since Mikey loves surfing, but also you can’t beat the magnificent beauty and the stunning beaches ) and the East Shore.
Here’s some of our favorite beaches to see on the East side of Oahu:
1. Sandy Beach Park
2. Makapu’u Beach
3. Kaupo Beach Park
4. Waimanalo Beach – we love this one
5. Lanikai Beach – amazing white sand and blue water
6. Kaiula Beach – famous kite surfing spot
7. Kualoa Beach Park
Driving around the unspoiled North Shore on the Kamehameha Highway away from the crowds in Waikiki is one of the most beautiful and magical drive. You will be passing numerous little coves, white sand beaches, roadside vendors with fresh coconuts, tropical fruits, shaved ice and you will feel and see the true Hawaii.
Our top favorite beaches on the North Short of Oahu:
1.Sunset Beach Park
2. Ehukai Beach
3. Waimea Bay
Waimea Beach
Sunset Beach
Maunawili Falls Trail
We truly enjoyed the hike and although the Leptospirosis warnings Mikey did it bare foot. What can we say….
The views from the Maunawili Hike.
Sunset at Sunset Beach.
It’s a big part of our life seeing every possible sunset we can. It’s an appreciation and gratefulness for the day we had together. Saying goodbye to the sun and looking forward seeing it tomorrow feels our hears with love and completeness.
